What Is Chelation Therapy?

EDTABy Longevity Medical

Chelation therapy is a method of medicine that is used to remove excess heavy metals from your bloodstream. This mainly refers to the excess mercury that can often exist inside your blood, which can cause harm to your cells, and therefore your body.

Chelation (pronounced kee-lay-shun) therapy is accomplished by intravenously introducing a chelating agent, Ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA), which is a synthetic amino acid. EDTA grabs onto the heavy metals and harmful minerals in the blood and allows them to be released in your urine. Sometimes another agent is used intravenously for extreme mercury detoxification, called DMPS. There are also oral chelating agents that are taken in pill form, and is an FDA-approved drug used for the treatment of lead poisoning. It is used to remove mercury from the body, combining with the metals in the bloodstream, then the metals and the drug are removed from the body by your kidneys and excreted through your urine.

The Evils of Caffeine

evil-coffeeBy Nikoletta Ven

Charles Czeisler, a neuroscientist and sleep expert from Harvard Medical School explains: “When the nature of work changed from a schedule built around the sun to an indoor job timed by a clock, humans had to adapt. The widespread use of caffeinated food and drink – in combination with the invention of electric light – allowed people to cope with a work schedule set by the clock, not by daylight or the natural sleep cycle.” In addition, scientific studies have shown that the power boost of caffeine is connected with its interference with adenosine – a chemical in our bodies, which has hypnotic effect and works as a natural sleeping pill. Caffeine actually ceases adenosine and in this way our alertness gets increased and our sleep habits are disrupted. As we all know, there’s no such thing as a free lunch and we pay for this extra wakefulness.

Several recent clinical research studies have demonstrated that the herb Hawthorn (Crataegus Oxyacantha) can be of great benefit to those suffering from heart failure. Heart failure, also called congestive heart failure or chronic heart failure, as described by Dr. Ed Zimney, MD, is “a condition in which the heart muscle cannot pump out blood effectively or efficiently. […] Left untreated, heart failure can become progressively worse because a vicious cycle develops wherein the heart gets further and further behind in its ability to pump the blood, which can lead to worsening symptoms and to acute heart failure requiring emergency medical treatment.”

Bladder cancer – The Bladder and Cancer

bladder-cancerBy Ian Gould

The Bladder is a term used to refer to the urinary bladder in the body. The urinary bladder stores urine until it is removed to the outside of the body. The urine from the kidney is collected in the bladder which is muscular and elastic in nature. Sometimes, the cells in the lining of the bladder begin to behave abnormally. The cells develop into tumors which may be cancerous in nature. When a cancer develops in the bladder it is referred to as the bladder cancer. This is a malignant type of tumor which can spread in the entire body and can even prove to be fatal.

Cancers of all types occur due uncontrolled cell division activity in some cells of the body. The activity of cell division is strongly controlled by the oncogene. Now, most cells have a specific cell life. After certain duration of time cells die and new cells are formed. But, in a mutated condition and due to environmental factors, oncogenic cells can lead to repeated division. In other words, cells which are supposed to die may not expire but to the contrary may continue to divide and form new cells such uncontrolled behavior leads to cancers. This behavior which is caused by the activation of oncogenes can occur for various reasons like viral infection.
